Meet our founder, Dr. Clay Brigance

Shiloh Counseling started as Clay’s passionate idea on November 6th, 2011. Shiloh is a Hebrew word, meaning “place of peace”. We are all seeking peace, and it’s the reason why many of us seek therapy. Clay seeks to help you find your Shiloh - your place of peace - whatever that may look like for you.

Since 2011, Clay has served 10 years as a school psychologist in the public schools, served his faith as a youth pastor, and earned a PhD in counseling at the University of Missouri - St. Louis. Clay’s passion at his time at UMSL focused on counseling couples struggling with infertility and reproductive loss - something very deeply personal to him and his wife. Clay also loves doing therapy and psychological assessment with a wide range of issues (both kids and grownups). However, one of Clay’s greatest passions is couple therapy. In fact, Clay is one of the very few Level 3 Gottman Certified Couple Therapists in St. Louis. His research on couple therapy has continued to gain national attention (including being featured in Forbes). Clay is often considered one of the nation’s top researchers in the field of couple therapy.

Clay was born and raised in Western Kentucky, and still has a love for the Bluegrass State. He has many passions, including publishing research on couple counseling and infertility, spending time with his wife and two boys, and all things nerd culture.

Clay is currently taking clients at Shiloh for psychological assessment, and currently has a waitlist for therapy sessions.
